The secret in a successful email marketing strategy is not the product or service. It is not the type of item or the style with which you present the marketing. Yes those things will have an impact in the final result. But the old saying that a great song is a great song no matter who sings it is an adage that rings true in email marketing as well. If you have the basic needs and desires covered in the marketing blurb then it will attract the desired people IF it actually reaches them. And that "if" is the big point you need to strive for.

The secret is that you can have the greatest item or idea in the world and it can be the next best thing since sliced bread for a certain demographic of people. But if those folks don't actually see it, then it is about as useful as the proverbial screen door on a submarine.

So, in a period of time when everyone has access to almost anything anywhere in the world via the Internet, how do we get the message of what we are selling or showing to the people that really care? We do what is known as a targeted email marketing campaign.

There are several ways in which to do this. The easiest is to obviously use the email contacts of people that have been to your website if you have one. If these people actually visited you then they know what you or it is all about. If they left an email contact then there is a great chance that they are looking to hear more from you because something sparked the interest that they have in you or the products or services that you offer.

If you have a huge list of these kinds of people then you are far and above the rest of the world and you have a list of qualified leads. People that want to see what you have to offer and this is a great thing for you. However if you are like much of the rest of the business world you will be falling a little short on that part and you need to find another way to be able to get your message out.

Depending on the budget you can data mine or pay a company for email addresses. These can vary in cost and effectiveness and depending on the types of people you are trying to reach it can vary widely in the actual usability. You might be able to target your lists purchased by various demographics that may or may not help you narrow down the people you will be email marketing too in a sufficient manner that you can filter out the useful from the useless.

The trick here is that if you are purchasing email lists from someone keep a record of which ones are good and the results. Not all companies doing this do a good job of it. If you get a good one and save the Email addresses then you will be that much farther ahead on the next campaign.
